Sylvie Cloutier was born in St-Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada, in 1957. From a young age, she was drawn to painting and the visual arts in general, which led her to pursue higher education in Fine Arts at Concordia University, UQAM, and the University of Montreal. A teacher in federal prisons at the college level and in visual arts at the secondary level, and represented in galleries since 1985, she continually explores geometric form in space. Heavily influenced during her studies by Kandinsky, Riopelle’s stencils, and Paul Klee’s colors, as well as by Braque’s collages and other great masters who remain an extraordinary reference for the artist, Sylvie Cloutier has never stopped drawing and painting, alongside her teaching and adult creativity workshops.
