Tim Yum Lau is a Hong Kong born multidisciplinary artist. He first studied Western art at the Hong Kong Institute of Fine Arts. Then, he studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He then completed his master’s degree in visual arts at the University of Quebec in Montreal. In 1969, he moved to Montreal where he practiced painting, printmaking, photography, calligraphy and installation. His works are a point of contact between the ancient East and the modern West where their confrontation and assimilation take place.
His work reflects the solitude, the anxieties of man, his terrors, his violence, but also his hope, his courage.
He is a witness to human destiny. Tin-Yum is one of the founding members of the Quebec Engraving Council in 1979.
He is also a founding member of the Atelier Circulaire in Montreal; graphic arts research workshop.
What’s more, he is the director of the ESPACE gallery in Montreal. His work is exhibited in Canada and abroad.
