Dawn Matthews is an internationally-acclaimed print maker, painter and educationalist.
She studied Art and Design at Bournemouth College of Art and Newcastle Upon Tyne University in England.
Graduated with BA (Hons) in 1976. In 1979 she studied screen-printing and moved to Dumfries, Scotland
where she set up her own printmaking studio. Her work was regularly published by London Contemporary Arts
and Regatta of London.
All the images for her prints are created from her own original drawings, and reflect the landscapes of places she lived: Galloway, West Scotland, Umbria, Italy and Perth Australia.
” (an) original silk screen print. It is hand printed in about 20 colors one over the other.
the image began as a pencil drawing was built up into a screenprint in a method that nobody else was able to copy or carry out. I push technology to its limits but it was done on a hand machine with big wooden screens and old fashioned drying racks.” D. M.
