Ruth Wilcox was born in New York City 1908 – 1989 and was married to Ray Wilcox. She was primarily a painter and a commercial artist but was also known as a crafts person. She was a member of the American Artists Professional League and National Association of Women Artists and studied at Art Students League, New York School of Fine & Applied Art, Pennsylvania Academy and Academie Julian in Paris.
Ruth Wilcox made a valuable contribution to the style of Realism in American art after World War II. Her work is of interest to researchers of many fields as she realistically recreated scenes of colonial life in New Jersey based on historical research.
