Canadian artist Francois Lortie best known as Niska, was born in Montreal and began painting at an early age. He dedicated his life to his art, fostering a very unique style derived from tachisme rich in both color and rhythm. Niska’s techniques captures elements of the figurative landscape and a non-figurative automatism incorporating pleats, cracks and thick impasto.
A member of the Leonardo Da Vinci Academy (Rome), the Lutèce International Academy (Paris) and the French Literary and Artistic Academy, Niska has exhibited throughout the world, most notably at the 83rd Salon des Independants at the Grand Palais des Champs Elysees.
Winning 1st prize for painting at the prestigious International Festival of Auvillar and the Grand Prix for Contemporary Art in Monaco, Niska’s much sought after works are part of important private and corporate collections throughout North America and Europe.
