The painter Caroline Fafard, a resident of Deux-Montagnes, is entering Europe these days, where, for six weeks, she will have the opportunity to live two artistic experiences which will allow her to exhibit overseas for the very first time in my 20-year career.

First of all, the City of Antwerp, in Belgium, has received her in residence since November 3, until December 12. In this Flemish city known for being the world capital of diamond sales and which has more than a million inhabitants, the Deux-Montagnaise will create new paintings inspired by the atmosphere of the place. “It is a restored historic building called Haringrokerij and whose huge doors will be opened exceptionally for the occasion, which, says Caroline Fafard in an email, is already attracting many curious people.”

“So far, the Belgians seem to show a lot of recognition and admiration for my work. Which delights me. The only difficulty I encounter is the language. Not everyone speaks French or English here, contrary to what I thought,” added the painter.

The paintings created on site will be exhibited from December 6 to 10. Also, she will present what she calls her “CFAF classics” from her Rouge collection , representing “especially love in all its forms and human relationships, but also natural landscapes of Quebec to introduce our beautiful nature to the Belgians” .

During the opening on December 6, a video portrait of the Abitibi-born artist, produced by Belgian filmmaker Mario de Munck, will also be presented for the first time. The document was filmed in Caroline Fafard’s studio, in Deux-Montagnes, and in various sites that inspired it, including Oka Park.

Then, her journey in Europe will continue in France, where she will have the opportunity to present in Paris an acrylic inspired by Vigneault’s poetry and entitled Mon pays, c’est pas un pays, c’est l’hiver!
