Born in Rivignano (Italy) in September 1920, Mario Mauro began his study of drawing, mosaic and painting at the Spillibergo Academy. Four years later, he entered the Brera Fine Arts Academy in Milan. Having completed his education, he barely had the time to start as an artist when he was called to the warfront.
Established in Québec in 1950, he was first interested in religious art. For 17 years, he worked in churches of several Canadian provinces where he made numerous frescos and mosaics as well as stained glasses. Fascinated at an early stage by the beauty of the landscape, he spent many hours reproducing it on canvas. He was particularly inspired by the Charlevoix region.
Mario Mauro has held several solo exhibitions, namely in Québec City, Montreal and Ottawa. His artworks are found in numerous public and private collection, both in Canada and the United States.
