Canadian Painter Hugh John Barrett (1935-2005)  studied at the École du Meuble de Montréal (School of furniture – Arts and crafts) and then from 1951 to 1953 at the Montreal School of Art and Design with Arthur Lismer and Goodridge Roberts.

Painting and teaching in the region of Montreal and Saguenay between 1960 and 1974 when he decided to devote himself to his artistic career only.

He illustrated for Gilles Vigneault a collection of poems, “In white ink” and a children’s tale, “The four seasons of Piquot”.
He also produced a series of works of “Land Art” on Anticosti Island.
