At Anse-au-Foulon an inspired Claude Carette set up his easel on the hillside to create images of the beautiful cliff and coves near Quebec City.

Artist Jean-Paul Lemieux encountered the young Carette painting and suggested he join him at the École des Beaux-Arts de Québec where he taught him until 1955.

Following a solo exhibition at Quebec City’s Palais Montcalm the next year, Carette travelled to France to study the modern aesthetics of Francastel at the Sorbonne and later with Professor Sauriol at the University of Aix-en-Provence.

After a brief academic career Carette exhibitied at the Canadian House of Paris in 1958. Returning to Quebec Carette participated in the “Salon du Printemps” at Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal.

Numerous group and individual exhibitions showcased his work in Quebec, Montreal, Toronto and New York establishing Carette as a exceptional watercolourist painter.

Carette continually expanded his techniques working in oil and large-format works several of which were presented at an impressive solo show at Complexe Desjardins in 1977.

His works can be found at the National Bank Collection, le Musée National des Beaux-arts du Québec, and le Musée d’art Contemporain de Montréal.
