Pierre Boucher (1942-) was born in Montreal and educated in St. Jerome. He pursued his studies and then worked in advertising, studied art and worked toward becoming a commercial designer. The allure of painting led him away from a comfortable, bourgeois life, allowing him to pursue his artistic ambitions.
Pierre Boucher favoured seclusion, seeking to establish a true connection with nature and to translate it into his paintings. He subtly painted the many facets of the Quebec’s four seasons. His palette knife technique lends a distinctive character to his work, although he is also known for his use of a lighter brush technique in his still life paintings.
Boucher made a place for himself among the select artists of the era. In 1979 he exhibited for the first time at the gallery of Vieux Palais of St. Jerome. In 1981, he exhibited at the Centre Culturel de Verdun, Laval’s Gallery Archambault, Gallery Martin (St. Hyacinthe), Gallery Marie-Pierre (Sorel) and the Guaranty Trust Gallery (Montreal).
An outdoor enthusiast Boucher carried his easel from the city to the countryside, and from the mountains to the sea. Travelling throughout Quebec and along the U.S. East coast. Boucher sketched street scenes, markets, sugar shacks and marine subjects that he would later realize during winter studio sessions.
Pierre Boucher works are prized additions to many private and public collections, institutions and corporate collections throughout Canada and the United States.
