Zoltan Perlmutter was born in Deva, Transylvania (now Romania) and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, Bucharest. During the Second World War he spent three years in Labour camps and immigrated to Israel in 1950. He exhibited at the Fine Art Museum, Bucharest in 1944, Safrai Gallery in Jerusalem in 1953, and Blecher Gallery in Tel Aviv in 1961. Permlutter moved to Dusseldorf and Knokke, Belgium and exhibited in 1962 and 1964 at the Galerie Denise in Antwerp, at the Nagy Elena Gallery in Montreal, Canada (1965, 1967, 1969 and 1984), the O’Hana Gallery, London in 1972 and in a Jewish community context in Berlin, Germany in 1988. His work was twice exhibited at Ben Uri in 1998 in the exhibitions ‘Characters from the Bible’ and ‘Israeli Artists and Scenes from the Ben Uri Collection – Landscapes of Israel’. Zoltan Perlmutter died in Israel in 2002.
