Abis trained at the School of Art and the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, finding reference points in the teachings of Ercole Sibellato, Bruno Saetti, Giulio Lorenzetti and Giuseppe de Logu. Since 1947 he has participated in the most important national and international artistic events, has exhibited in about 600 solo and group exhibitions, and has received numerous awards and recognitions for his work, including the Gold Medal for history, culture and art awarded to him by the President of the Republic Scalfaro in 1992.
Professor of History of Art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, as an art expert and critic he has collaborated with newspapers and art magazines. He has held positions at the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation, was a member of the Ateneo Veneto, a member of the Board of Directors of the Circolo Artistico Veneziano and other artistic and cultural associations.
His works are preserved in important public and private collections. Among others, Giorgio Trentin, Silvio Branzi, Umbro Apollonio, Giuseppe De Logu were interested in his work.
