Claude Dumont is an important figure in the artistic landscape of Trois-Pistoles and the Bas-Saint-Laurent region. He was the only French-speaking Canadian to have participated in an artistic creation program led by the Canadian Department of National Defence in Lahr, Germany in 1972. Four works created during this program can be found in the collections of the War Museum in Ottawa. In addition to his artistic practice, he also had a career as a teacher at the Trois-Pistoles comprehensive school.
