André Turpin enrolled in ceramics at the Montreal Institute of Applied Arts (1961-1962). He had Maurice Savoie (Montreal School of Furniture and Montreal School of Fine Arts) as his teacher. In addition, in the history of styles (a branch of art history ) the novelist Claude Jasmin was his teacher. He rubbed shoulders with the sculptors Robert Roussil and Armand Vaillancourt who were then at the beginning of their careers.
At the École des beaux-arts de Montréal (1963-1965), André Turpin took classes in painting from Mr. Wolf and in modeling from Mr. Potvin . In art history, he was taught by François -Marc Gagnon . From 1966 to 1967 , André Turpin was a student at the Académie Julian in Paris. Upon his return to Quebec, he began experimenting with ceramics.
In 1976 , he undertook an internship in marble sculpture and foundry techniques in Pietrasanta , Italy . In 1979 , he successfully completed an internship in ceramics at the Atelier d’Art des Mitons , in France.
