Algerian born Claude Montoya is a professional artist who studied in architecture and Fine Arts in Rennes, France. During her years in Paris, from 1978-1986, she joined Atelier 63, an Art Collective founded by Joelle Serve, a former student of Stanley Hayter, where learned the art of engraving and printing. Soon thereafter, she began exhibiting solo works as well as participating in important group exhibitions and produced several illustrations for art card editions.

Claude arrived in Montreal in 1986 and soon thereafter joined La Guilde Graphique, honing her skills in etching and printing. Claude quickly garnered the attention of her peers with her eclectic and unique style, painting alongside an array other artists and exhibiting in different Galeries. Since 1997, she has been operating out of her inspiring loft studio located in the heart of Old Montreal.

Claude Montoya’s work is sourced via the inspiration gathered on her daily exploration of her social and geographical environment. Her very original perception of urban sceneries has earned her special recognition as a popular and prominent Montreal artist. Claude’s works can be found in many public and private collections.
