Lawrence C. Goldsmith (1916 – 2004)

Watercolorist Lawrence Goldsmith was born in New York City and raised in Westchester, New York.

Goldsmith studied watercolor with Eliot O’Hara at the Yale School of Art, Mario Cooper at the Art Students League and Reuben Tam at the Brooklyn Museum of Art School.

Known for landscape, seascape, and still life, he resided and created in Vermont. Goldsmith was also a member of the professional Monhegan Artists in Maine.

The artist writes of his method in the book “40 Watercolorists and How They Work” by Susan E. Meyer.
“I look for a motif, not a scene. This gives the work an abstract quality. I try to give a strong impression of sky, water, forest, or whatever, without ever getting specific.”
